The 2026 Canadian Shetland Sheepdog National Specialty will be held at Chilliwack Heritage Park in Chilliwack, British Columbia. The event will include National Obedience, Rally Obedience, Sweepstakes, Junior Showmanship, the National Specialty, Ringside Mentoring, the CSSA Biennial General Meeting, the National Banquet, and Herding events.
All judges and dates are subject to CKC approval.

Chilliwack Heritage Park is a large multi-use event facility located near the Trans-Canada Highway in Chilliwack, British Columbia. The park is well suited to major canine events, with indoor event space, outdoor field space, camping options, and facilities used for dog shows, agricultural events, equestrian events, conventions, trade shows, and community gatherings. The venue’s location near Highway 1 makes it convenient for exhibitors and visitors travelling from across British Columbia and beyond.

Rick Thompson, Chaminade Shelties - National Specialty All Classes & Breed
I am moved by the opportunity to judge the Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Association National Specialty. I have had the esteemed honor to judged some of the most significant Shetland Sheepdogs in modern times in both the Canada and the United States. I have had the honor to pass judgement on some dogs that have made a significant impact to modern times. My 50 year investment in our breed has afforded me the opportunity to breed a bitch that won ASSA Best Brood Bitch.
One of my hallmark show wins was in 1990. I was awarded ASSA BOB with the first bi-black to win Breed at the American National Specialty. One of the most interesting memories about that win is that it was under a Canadian judge Ariel Sleeth. To date I have judged at the American Shetland Sheepdog National Specialty three times and the Canadian National Specialty once. Being asked to judge at a National Specialty by a vote from your peers is the ultimate goal of every judge. Your consideration is rewarding.

Norma Jeanne Pohl, Leith Shelties - National Sweepstakes
Firstly, I would like to express my appreciation for being asked to judge the Juvenile and Veteran Sweepstakes at the upcoming CSSA National Specialty.
My love of the Shetland Sheepdog breed goes back many years. As a child my family home always included a dog - usually a Collie. But once married and with a family, I fell in love with the Sheltie.
Initially, I was fortunate to meet and become involved with the Shetland Sheepdog Fancier Club of Edmonton. I met some wonderful Sheltie owners and breeders and through them, I was able to enhance my knowledge and love for the breed.
My first Sheltie hopeful went oversize, and so I decided to venture into Performance activities. After training classes, I had great fun trialing my two Shelties- and even ventured into Agility. By attending the shows to trial my performance dogs, I was also able to appreciate the Conformation ring as well and before long, I was keen to learn more about breeding and showing. I've had reasonably good success, in the conformation ring under my kennel name, Leith Perm. Reg'd and most importantly, met some lifelong friends and acquaintances.
I am so grateful for the knowledge and insight that I've learned along the way. I was given the opportunity to become involved with the CSSA, in an official capacity, holding the position of Alberta director for many years-again getting to know fellow Sheltie breeders and enthusiasts across our great Nation.
For the past thirty years I have been very involved in the Battle River Canine Association of Camrose Alberta starting small with an Obedience trial once a year to what we are today having two sets of CKC All Breed shows a year (March and October) - offering Conformation, Obedience and Rally.
This past year, I made the difficult decision to give up breeding our wonderful breed, but I still have three Shelties at home and two token Chinese Crested - all of whom are CKC Champions.I'd like to wish all the exhibitors attending the CSSA National Specialty great success in your individual breeding programs and success at the shows.

Liana Maloney, Cincerlee Shelties - SSCBC Sweepstakes
Liana Maloney has been involved in purebred dogs since the late 1970s and established Cincerlee Shelties after purchasing her first show dog from Hi-Hope Kennels in 1980. Since that time, Cincerlee Shelties has produced 54 champions, including nationally ranked Shelties, top-ranked Alter All Breeds winners, and internationally titled dogs.
Liana, still actively showing, has also been extremely active in the show community working as Show Secretary, Chair and Superintendent. Most recently Liana has received her CKC judges license for half of Group 7.
Penny Jackson - Courtenay, B.C - National Obedience, Rally Obedience, National Junior Obedience
My interest in dog obedience began during childhood in England by attending dog training sessions with my mum. Since then, the dogs in my life have been a Mini Schnauzer, German Pinschers and Papillons. I have trained and competed to high levels in Obedience, Rally, Tracking, Agility and Conformation. I decided to become a CKC Obedience Judge, and lately a Rally Judge, to give back to the sport I love.
Teresa Michaud — National Herding
I have owned Samoyeds for the past 22 years and have been involved in a variety of performance sports with my dogs, but herding has always been my passion.
I have been herding with my Samoyeds for more than 20 years. Over the years, I have had the privilege of training and trialing dogs to CKC, AKC and AHBA herding titles. My girl, Buca, was the first Samoyed to earn an Advanced CKC herding title (ducks), and Quila was the first Samoyed to earn an Advanced CKC herding title on sheep. I have also had the pleasure of putting a Started CKC herding title on my favourite Sheltie, Gale.
Herding has been a wonderful journey for me and my dogs, and I particularly enjoy the partnership and teamwork that develop between dog and handler.
I am still actively trialing with my two young Samoyeds and continue to learn, train, and enjoy this sport that I love.
Jo Ann Pavey — SSCBC Specialty
I have owned, bred, trained and shown Shetland Sheepdogs for over 50 years. Our dogs have been very successful in all rings on both sides of the border. I am an All Breed judge who is focused on continually learning about all purebred dogs. I have judged Group Specialty Shows for Herding and Toys (2), as well as Specialty Shows for Collies, Belgian Shepherd Dogs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Pembroke Welsh Corgis (2), Finnish Lapphunds (National), Gordon Setters, Great Pyrenees, Bearded Collies and Australian Shepherds (ASCA). I have been very fortunate to have judged many Sheltie Specialties all over the United States and Canada and one in Japan. This includes having judged both of the Canadian and American Shetland Sheepdog National Specialties, and I have been voted in to judge the Breed at ASSA2029. I have judged in Canada, the U.S., Japan, China, Colombia, and Mexico.
